Mentoring

Hi there, just a question - does anyone have experience with being or having a mentor as a dancer? Like someone you not only take classes from but get personal advice on your progress, maybe you send her a dvd to look at, etc? I live in a place where it's difficult to find a teacher locally so I was thinking about approaching someone abroad - any thoughts on that? Thanks!

My teacher and troupe director is totally my mentor. I may look to other troupe members for advice, but I always look to my troupe director & teacher for hints & any questions that I have. if you can't find a teacher locally, I'd encourage you to keep as many contacts abroad as possible. Eventually you'll meet someone you click with that can be your mentor. In the meantime, seek advice from all the dancers you can get it from!
