Who are Your Favorite Belly Dance musicians?

One of mine is Phil Thornton in which I'm searching.

He along with Fritz Heede & Micheal Beach (with whom I can find all
over the place) are my three sources for the Best BELLY Dance music
I could or would ever want to hear. That's what I used to use/play
all of the time before I once again (after leaving it for a minute)
am 'back into the Dance'.

This time as many of you know..I have a vested interest beyond the
strictly social & entertainment benefits. Namely my newly started
Foundation. And to learn more about it (and me) please go to:
www.myspace.com/linny_g ..plus if you have ANY information on
where
I can find music produced by PHIL THORNTON, then 'e' me
here..thanks!

I might as well tick Tribe off by naming just about all of my other
Group sources (and did I tell you about yahoo.. bellydance.meetup.com/11/memb
er/2226428/ and Bhuz.com :-)?),
~Linny~

PS. And join me at MySpace or Tribe as a Friend or Associate if the
Spirit moves you!

  • Great question!

Mine are definitely Hossam Ramzy (predictable, I know)-"Baladi Plus" has to be my favourite bellydance cd ever, with "Sabla Tolo" very close behind. George Abdo and Natacha Atlas are also faves.

I love to bellydance to 'non bellydance' musicians, like The Tea Party, T-Rex, Def FX, Ping (instrumental group from Melbourne), and percussionist Greg Ellis.

A lot of my BD cds don't actually have credited musicians, they just have song titles, so even though I love the music, I don't know who is to thank for it.

Two groups for me. Raquy and the Cavemen, based out of Brooklyn. Some of the best drumming you'll every hear. Look for a song called Caravan and judge for yourself.
The other group is called Ishtar and they are based out of Pittsburgh, PA. They focus on the "Old School" Turkish sound. I love dancing to them when the perform live.
